Meet Diane Garrod
Diane Garrod is a PCT-A (professional canine trainer – accredited), with a degree in Communication and Journalism from the University of Wisconsin. Garrod is a Founding Member of the Pet Professionals Guild: the association of force-free pet professionals (PPG). She is the Owner of Canine Transformations Learning, Education and Production based out of Langley, Washington (celebrating 18 years, January 2006 to January 2024), awarded 2016 and 2017 Best Business category Dog Trainer by the Langley, WA Awards Committee.
Garrod is a Guild Certified Tellington Touch Practitioner, CA; an American Treiball certified instructor and judge, CATT and Charter Member of NATE (National Association of Treiball Enthusiasts); a Fear Free certified FF1, along with continuing certifications in her field as stated below.
Garrod believes education never ends. Early in her career, Garrod spent eight years in hospital public health and public relations. She then worked in broadcast media as a reporter, promotions director, news anchor, and community relations for ten years at ABC, NBC, and FOX in medium market television and as promotions director, and events coordinator in radio. Garrod then worked in Silicon Valley, as Senior Producer for Talk City a Liveworld Productions entity creating online celebrity events, interviews, and chatrooms, three years before starting her dog training and behavior business working full-time with problem dogs.
Garrod has skills certifications in resource guarding, animal behavior, theriogenology, writing for the sciences, fear in dogs, cognition and emotion, and sleep. Most recent certifications are in predation and aggression, 2017; and Aggression in Dogs: Safety, Defensive Handling, and Training 2017, as well as Fear Free Certification, through VetFolio by Marty Becker, DVM (fear-free veterinarian practices) 2017. She is also proudly a Guild Certified Tellington Touch Practitioner CA1 since 2011.
Garrod’s main areas of research include stress in dogs and is the creator of Stress Release, For Dogs, the Canine Emotional Detox.
She is an international speaker on this topic and on solving the aggression and behavior puzzle, force-free. Her next book “Dogs Who Guard Resources: From Guarding to Sharing in 60 Days” is in final editing stages. Her case study course and webinar on this topic are offered at Grisha Stewart’s Dog School.Â
Garrod is a regular contributor to PPG’s Barks from the Guild Magazine having cover articles: (current article “What is Enrichment for Animals”), and APDT Click! Magazine (current article “From High Stress to Low Stress”). Dodging Euthanasia with Force Free techniques, a story about her own rehomed adoptee, Skye. On Facebook Garrod is the administrator of groups Canine Emotional Detox: Force Free Trainers, Solving the Aggression Behavior Puzzle; Canine Behavior Analysis and Science; RV Dogs On-The-Road; and Multi-dog Households Fighting. She is helping to develop the Phenix Advocacy Center with Annie Phenix and Denise O’Moore to address trauma in the dog training industry (trainers, dogs) much like the NMV (No More Vets) center focused on stopping more suicides from professionals. She has QPR certification (in suicide prevention) and recently received her eCPR certificaction in emotional CPR and is working on her Trauma Master Certification. Diane speaks to many popular webinars online and radio talk venues with an upcoming talk on “The Clock Is Ticking: Time Management and Personal Health” to Phenix Advocacy Center in May 2023 as she starts to make a difference to those struggling in a complicated world.
Diane also runs a talk titled Dog’s Voice as host and presents twice a month with a monthly guest speaker on a host of topics surrounding her passion, stress in dogs. Garrod has a Master's Certification in Canine Nutrition and is offering consultations and recipe development. Garrod is currently in full development of online classes starting with a Master Certification course in Canine Stress Release based on the Canine Emotional Detox and offered through her business school Canine Transformations Learning, Education and Learning. More courses will be developed and added over time. 2023 October 12 through 15th shewas a major conference speaker at the APDT AUSTRALIA conference “live” speaking on Stress Release in Dogs; Resource Guarding; How Important Sleep Is and Why; and more providing a 3-hour workshop; and several 40 to 90-minute presentations over four days plus taking conference to its conclusion with topic R+ all the way in working through complex behaviors.
