SHARON WACHSLER
Setting Your Service Dog in Training Puppy on a Path to Success
Puppy & Basic Manners Training for Future Service Dogs
A Handbook for Pet Dog Trainers
By Sharon Wachsler, CPDT-KA, KPACTP
- Goes over basic dos and don’ts for future service dogs, including typical missteps by pet dog trainers.
- Geared toward pet trainers who do not specialize in SD training but have a client who is training a puppy or young dog as a SDiT.
- Does not cover how to train various skills, but provides a list of what to focus on and what to avoid, so it can be used by owner-handlers who want to know what to work on, or for them to give their trainer to help guide their training together.
About
Sharon Wachsler knows service dog owner training from the inside out. She worked as a disability information and referral specialist in the 1990s before becoming disabled by chronic illness herself for 18 years.
Sharon trained her first service dog for herself at a time when few people even knew about service dogs that were not guide dogs for the blind. Since then, training, writing, and speaking about service dogs has been her life's passion.
Sharon opened At Your Service Dog Training eight years ago and now offers service dog training both online and in Hadley, MA. Sharon and her staff help disabled people and their families train their own canine assistants, as well as provide mentoring and consulting for professional trainers on service dog topics.
